THE END。 1. Everything Search Engine. Have fun!
February 24 China, A wonderful Land(本文完全使用blackberry在飞机上完成)
China, a wonderful land. Big wonders are happening every day. It is amazing for me in the past week. This wonderful land, although I have lived for more than 28 years, seems different now. In the morning, when I get on a subway, I found the train is packed with thousands of office ladies and office boys, all in nice business suits, showered and perfumed, full of energy and hope, starting their brand new day. Most of them are very young, in their 20s. I have to wonder where are all those middle aged and senior guys. Are those older guys being laid off? Or they have their private vehicles. On the train, some are busy with their variety of phones; some are busy with their MP3/4 players; a few are reading books; nobody is reading news paper, in such a crowd, it is not easy to read news paper. When I get off the train and follow the crowd entered the Terra Technology zone, I was amazed by the fast paced crowd. Restaurants one after another, providing good looking and inexpensive fast-food breakfast. Huaqiangbei is a big ten-storey building, selling all kinds of electronic stuff in small vendor unit. It just reminds me a bee hive or ant cave. Hundred of thousand people working in here every day, make a sale revenue of hundred of million RMBs daily. This is the heart of Chinese electronic and computer industry. However unfortunately 80 per cent of the stuff they are selling is fake. This is a sad number. When you are looking for some part you have to assume it is faked and you have to find proof to show that it is authenticated. This is exactly the contrary to the standard western market in which you assume credibility unless broken. Lack of credibility is not unique in selling electronic parts. It is a ubiquitous problem of everywhere. This is a fundamental assumption. You have to prove yourself is innocent while everyone is assume you are evil. General workers are protected by mercy of their employers. That is the only way they can seek help. There is a law, or maybe more than one. But law enforcement is zero. So you can do what you like to do as an employer. And there is not a thing called union. Because general labor is so cheap and abundant, so does IT professionals. Now a days new graduate from Computer Science and EE makes much less money than 10 years before, thanks to the great expansion of the higher education and significant biased course settings. When IT is hot, every one is seeking after it. 10 years later we ends up with much bigger over supply of the IT entry level engineers. And lack of other kinds of professionals. Sometimes I just wonder how everyone managed to survive in such a cruel environment. Every day you gonna survive or die. The small company my friends running is barely survived last year. Employee numbers went doubled, while sales revenue keeps the same. Ends up with much less profit. Shenzhen Book store has a lot of books. You may find many great books, but they are translated. Many nice high rise buildings spread across the city. Looks beautiful and amazing from far aside. However when approaching closely some of them are very dirty. The shenzhen hong kong port is still tightly controlled in spite of the returning of HK for more than 10 years. You still need special permit to visit HK though the application is not long and inexpensive. It is hard to believe that HK is already part of China. HK has their own citizenship law which potentially allows dual citizenship. HK is much cleaner than Shenzhen at the first glance. People obey rules and very nice. What is the strength of Shenzhen? And what is the future of Shenzhen? Well this is a big question I have no intension to solve. So let put it down for a while I can imagine if you are rich, living Shenzhen gonna be a very nice plave. Here you have great road conditions. You have access to a lot of delicious food from nation wide to international famouses. Shenzhen is never lack of beautiful girls. Some are good background with decent jobs. Some has nothing to trade for money but their youthness and beauty. Unless you are born with golden keys in your mouth, usually you have to do some business to maintain you richness and social status. Things went bitter when we are talking into this part. Well bribe and corruption is not a problem at all it is just a very natural part of maybe any society just a matter of degrees. My parents are growing older. It seems that they enjoy their life very well. So I don't have to worry about them too much. They have been invited to Canada for half an year in 2007. Pretty much like in prison for them. So they decided not go to Canada for another time no matter what. If I were the single son, I will be very sad. The good thing is I have a younger brother staying with them. I assume he will take some responsibility under any emergency. Subway is fast and you don't have to wait long for the next train. The payment system is interesting. You can either use some prepaid RF IC card or buy a small token with cash. The whole working flow is quite smooth. Big shopping malls sell shoes and clothes in thousands of RMBs. In the first floor, you will find all kinds of perfumes for ladies and men. They are no where cheaper than in Canada, most of them are more expensive. You can find every brand names no matter how rare it is. On the other hand, off the street you can wrap yourself up from head to toe with less than 100 RMBs. Met with a college classmate, never seen her since after graduation. Seems she is doing okay, quite know what she is doing. I wish her all good luck. We also exchanged some gossips in Shenzhen and Canada. Neither of us is satisfied though. Starbucks is around every street corner from Beijing to Shenzhen. People order Mocha, Latte and Cappuchino with ease. They are not a place for general labor workers of course. With the expense of 1 cup of coffee, you can feed yourself a full day. Starbucks owner must make big money. Same price considering the. Exchange rate, much lower labor cost and rental and utility. Coffee beans? I think the cost of coffee beans is ignoreable. Honestly I don't think I can live in any of the cities I travelled, Beijing, Wuhan or Shenzhen. They are full of entertainment and temptations. However I just don't like it any more. Maybe never before. That is probably one of the reason I choose to escape from the crowd. A big fat guy wearing a neck tie beside me keeps farting. Oh shit. Why not get the shit out of you dude! This flight is pretty quiet, I wasn't bothered by any baby crying or screaming. Now the plane is approaching Vancouver. I will land there and connect to another flight to Toronto. Hope I have enough time to pass the custom and get the plane. Watched High School Musical 3, it is a beautiful film. Teenager kids singing and dancing, some love stories without sex scenes. Watched Boiler Room again, the way they doing cold calling just reminds my own cold call experience. Although I didn't have too much practice, I think I learned a lot from the training. I once tutored by a door-to-door sales team. The goal is simple, sell some stuff to some strangers on the street. Either a stuffed animal or a Disney book, you name it. I have a small piece of paper, with number 1 to 100 on it. Every time when I talked to a person, put a circle around a number. If not make a deal, an extra X on top. At the end of the day, we almost finished 100 nuimbers. It is hard to believe that we have more than 20 YES. This is called number game theory. If you hit enough number you will have some positive results even the possibility is small. When I was looking for my first job, pretty much the same rule was applied. Just blindly send 20 resumes every day, and you just wait for your job interviews. Every phone call will close a deal. Either you sell him the product, or he sells you the reason he can't buy. Haha, interesting. Although I have traning I am still not get used to bargaining. Sometimes feel guilty. I bought some DVDs on the street vendors. They asked for 130. I think I can push it lower. So I asked can't you make it lower? Seller says no and add 2 more DVDs into my stuff. At that moment I almost nod my head. Then all of a sudden I think I should practice my sales technique. Then I said how about 100. He said no. Then I put the stuff down and pretend to walk away. He is obviously not willing to lose this big business, so following me and offering 120. I said 110 and this time I really walk away after another no. He runs up and makes the deal, looks like he lost money. Even a blind man knows a business man won't do a business if he loses money. Quit from Huawei I might have lost a couple million. But I don't regret. Because I experienced some different life path. And I think I have some peaceful life that I really enjoy right now. I can't imagine that I went back to older path and live in that way. They eat better food, make bigger money and date younger ladies. I don't envy them. They have paid the price. Maybe one day I will get bored, and I may go back. Who knows.
